A 64-year-old man died Tuesday evening after striking a road barrier while in his truck on Colorado Highway 470 in Littleton.

The Colorado State Patrol responded to a single-vehicle crash on C-470 near Santa Fe Drive around 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the department.

Initial investigations showed that a Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on the highway before it struck a barrier on the left side of the road. The vehicle then rotated and rolled, blocking the middle and right lane of the highway. The driver, from Calhan, was transported to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, the department said.

The highway was closed down for investigations, later reopening Tuesday evening.

In a subsequent news release, the Colorado State Patrol said the man — who was the only person in the vehicle — died at the hospital Tuesday night.

His identity will be released by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office following investigations.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the crash is asked to call CSP at (303) 239-4501.
