Abandoned Colorado truck stop catches fire early Sunday in Commerce City
Fire appears to damage the abandoned 'Deno's 6 & 85' truck stop, once one of Colorado's oldest roadside amenities.
South Adams Fire officials have launched an investigation into what caused a fire at an abandoned truck stop in Commerce City early Sunday.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, according to a South Adams County Fire Department posting on social media platform X.
At around 3:55 a.m., South Adams Fire crews responded to a burning building near the intersection of 55th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard in Commerce City.
Upon arrival, officials said crews battled a fire with heavy smoke.
Department officials said crews gained control of the fire, the building and no one was found inside.
The sign above the burning building shows it was “Deno’s 6 & 85,” once the oldest truck stop in Colorado, according to Curbside Classic.
The truck stop, which served as a restaurant, bar and rest area – was described as a vintage-style experience. Built in 1947, Deno’s 6 & 85 operated on and off, then closed in 2017, the automotive archives page said.
Adams County Fire Rescue and Platte Valley Ambulance joined South Adams Fire in battling the flames Sunday morning.
Authorities continue to investigate what caused the fire Sunday.
The Denver Gazette has reached out to the South Adams County Fire Department for further information.
