Denver weather: Rain turns to snow late Monday for sogginess most of the week
Winter storm warnings in effect for eastern Plains and Front Range mountains
The warm weather across Denver is over on Monday as rain and snow appear in the forecast, as do lower temperatures and windy conditions.
Denver residents can expect a 40% chance of rain, mainly after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. Expect increasing clouds, with a high near 61. South wind 6 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.
“The next storm will bring widespread precipitation to the forecast area late this afternoon and tonight,” the NWS said. “It will start as rain in the foothills and plains, but eventually turn to snow late this evening.”
Expect strong north and northwest winds to develop later this evening as well, especially over the plains.
“Gusts to 60 mph are possible in some areas after midnight,” the NWS said. “Blizzard conditions are expected over the plains after midnight with very hazardous winter driving conditions. Travel should be avoided.”
Tonight it’ll be a mixture of rain and snow, becoming all snow after 9 p.m. Low around 33. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
A winter storm warning for areas south of Denver, including Castle Rock, is in effect from 8 p.m., Monday to 12 p.m., Tuesday. Expect between 4-8 inches of snow.
A winter storm warning for areas west of Denver, including the Front Range foothills, mountains and areas in Summit and Grand counties, is in effect from 3 p.m., Monday to 5 p.m., Tuesday. Expect between 2-14 inches of snow.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 53. Southeast wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.
Thursday: A chance of rain and snow after 11 a.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 50. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Friday: Snow likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38.
