Where good news shines
After a nerve-racking playoff series against arch-rival Colorado College, the Denver Pioneers hockey team improved their national ranking.
The Pios moved up a spot to No. 6 in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll Monday.
Michigan State is the new No. 1.
Denver escaped the three-game series against Colorado College after losing the first game, 3-1. The Pioneers recovered to win the next two, 6-3 and 9-2, to advance to the NCHC semifinals.
Denver (28-10-1) will face Arizona State (21-13-2) in the Frozen Faceoff on Friday at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. The other semifinal shows Western Michigan against North Dakota. The championship game is Saturday.
