Man barricades himself in Aurora apartment after hit-and-run

The pursuit started in Arapahoe County

The Aurora Police Department’s SWAT team arrested a man after he barricaded himself apartment following a nearby hit-and-run Saturday morning.

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near South Parker Road and East Mississippi Avenue around 7:30 a.m., according to a press release from the department. The driver refused to stop and the deputies ended the pursuit on South Parker Road near East Florida Avenue.

The suspect vehicle then crashed on South Parker Road near South Dayton Street moments later, with witnesses reporting that a man fled from the scene.

A female suspect was arrested at the scene of the crash.

Witnesses said the man was breaking into a condo at Rain Tree Condos at 9901 E. Evans Ave.

Police say the man barricaded himself into the condo and the Aurora SWAT team responded around 11 a.m. to communicate with him. There were no reports of injuries or people barricaded with the suspect, police said.

East Jewel Avenue at South Havana Street were shut down, and South Dayton Street and East Jewel Avenue were also shut down while police negotiated with the man, the department said.

The man was eventually arrested around 1 p.m., but investigators stayed on the scene and kept the road closed.
