2 people arrested after armed home invasion and pursuit

Two suspects wanted in connection with an armed home invasion in Arvada were arrested in Douglas County late Wednesday.

Two people wanted in connection with an Arvada home invasion were arrested after the car they stole was spotted by a Colorado State Patrol aircraft that was returning from an unrelated mission, CSP said.

Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, a “BOLO” (be on the lookout) was issued for a stolen Honda Civic, CSP said. According to the BOLO, two people went into an Arvada home and demanded money and the keys to the Civic. One of the people had a gun.

Arvada Police said the home invasion happened in the 7600 block of Reed Street. A victim reported that two males came into his house, threatened him with a handgun and demanded money and vehicle keys.

Officers located and tried to stop the stolen Honda near West 80th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, but the vehicle’s occupants did not stop. Officers pursued but ended the pursuit after about two minutes due to public safety concerns, police said.

Around 7:30 p.m., crew members in a CSP aircraft spotted the vehicle as they returned to the Centennial Airport. The CSP aircraft followed the stolen vehicle as it traveled north on Interstate 25 near Larkspur. The crew coordinated with ground resources.

Members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Lone Tree Police Department, and CSP troopers made attempts to stop the vehicle.

Eventually, around 8:15 p.m., Douglas County deputies used stop sticks at Havana Street and Interstate 25. The Honda driver continued west on East Lincoln Avenue, and a few minutes later, a PIT maneuver was used to stop the vehicle at Rosemont Avenue, CSP said.

Two people exited the vehicle and ran away, CSP said. They were taken into custody after a short foot chase.

Both had warrants for charges including auto theft, robbery, burglary, and parole violations. They were both taken to a hospital to be checked out, and once medically cleared, were booked into the Douglas County Jail.

The Colorado State Patrol is leading the investigation into the eluding and apprehension of the vehicle in Douglas County. While processing the scene, troopers found a stolen handgun in the vehicle.

Arvada Police are handling the investigation into the initial robbery and theft.
