Second arrest made in 2024 killing of Idaho Springs dog breeder

Ana Ferrer, wife of primary suspect Sergio Ferrer, was arrested in Nebraska

The wife of a Georgetown man charged with the 2024 killing of Idaho Springs dog breeder Paul Peavey was arrested by the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office last Friday.

Ana Ferrer faces charges of accessory to crime, theft and tampering with physical evidence, according to a news release from the department. Police submitted a warrant for her arrest in March that was executed last week, with her being extradited from Nebraska.

Ana Ferrer’s husband, Sergio Ferrer, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated robbery in August 2024 in connection with shooting and killing Peavey, a Doberman breeder who had initially gone missing three days earlier. Sergio Ferrer then allegedly sold one of the puppies just days after the homicide.

After executing a search warrant on Sergio Ferrer’s residence, police found a handgun as well as Peavey’s cellphone, jewelry and other personal items, according to arrest records. Sergio Ferrer claimed that he had stolen the items from Peavey’s camper but denied taking the puppies.

Sergio Ferrer also told police that Peavey worked for a cartel and had attempted to kill him. Bruce Boynton, Peavey’s friend for at least six years and who had led a search party that found Peavey’s body, called the claims, “completely bogus.”

“Paul had no affiliation with any sort of organization like that. Zero affiliation,” Boynton told The Denver Gazette. “He was a great guy. He’d give you the shirt off his back. Probably one of the best dog trainers to walk the face of the earth.”

Police are still investigating Peavey’s homicide, as well as the whereabouts of several Doberman puppies that are believed to have gone missing from his property around the time of his death.

Sergio Ferrer is scheduled to be back in court April 21. Ana Ferrer has a hearing scheduled for the next day, April 22.

Anyone with information about the investigation or the puppies is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-670-7567, or submit a tip via email at [email protected] or anonymously via the CCSO website at https://bit.ly/CCSOCrimeTips.
