Denver breaks heat record at 86 degrees, held since 2023
The city hits 86 degrees at 3 p.m.
Spring — or summer — has hit Denver, with the city breaking the daily temperature record Saturday afternoon.
The Denver International Airport hit 86 degrees around 3 p.m., according to The Denver Gazette’s news partner, 9News. The previous hottest April 12 was in 2023, when the city hit 85 degrees.
But, it’s the earliest day in a year that the city has hit 86 degrees, with the second closest being April 21, 1989, according to 9News.
Saturday was also the first time it’s hit 80 degrees in Denver in 165 days, on Oct. 28.
Due to the dry heat and gusting winds, the area remains under a red flag fire warning until 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Boulder (NWS).
The warm weather will continue throughout next week, taking a quick dip back into chilly temperatures with a high of 54 and chance of snow on Friday, according to NWS.
