Forest fire ignites near Turkey Tracks shooting range north of Woodland Park; campers advised to evacuate
Fire crews are battling a wildfire that ignited Saturday north of Woodland Park.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported the fire was near the Turkey Tracks shooting range off CO 67, close to Rainbow Falls, on U.S. Forest Service land.
Crews from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Office of Emergency Management, the Teller County Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Forest Service responded to contain the blaze.
The fire had scorched an estimated 128 acres and was 0% contained as of 10 p.m. Saturday, according to Pike & San Isabel National Forests Cimarron & Comanche National Grasslands.
No structures are threatened.
Campers in the area were advised to evacuate and a helicopter was requested to assist with suppression efforts.

Both directions of CO 67 were closed due to fire activity between Painted Rocks and Trout Creek roads, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Saturday’s fire sparked amid dry, windy conditions and record high temps. Fire danger was high across Colorado Saturday, with much of the state under a Red Flag warning until 9 p.m. Fire danger will continue Sunday, with a Red Flag Warning issued from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
