Colorado Rockies offense reaches historic lows on West Coast road swing
A lack of Rockies offense is reaching historic lows.
They began a West Coast road swing with three losses to the Padres — 8-0, 2-0 and 6-0 — with Colorado previously never experiencing a shutout in three consecutive games.
The Rockies are 3-12 entering a three-game series this week at the Dodgers. It’s their worst 15-game record to begin a season in franchise history.
Warning signs appeared during their first two series of 2025 against the Rays and Phillies. Colorado posted a 32.9% strikeout rate with 58 over five games.
Manager Bud Black expressed optimism ahead of the home opener at Coors Field.
“It’s coming. We haven’t seen it the first week, for sure. But the history of the Rockies … they mashed, they crushed, and they had tremendous talent. As the years went on, there (were) a couple of Hall of Famers in there,” Black said on April 4. “Presently, right now, we’ve got to get on track with this group of players offensively.”
He added: “In time, I think we will. Guys have got to stop pressing a little bit. Guys are a little bit trying too hard. You hear it a lot in professional sports.”
“But our guys will bounce back. They’ll relax once they get a couple of hits,” he said.
There are still no answers 10 games later.
Colorado entered a Monday night road tilt at the Dodgers on a 27-inning scoreless streak.
Second baseman Kyle Farmer provided their only real spark over that span, batting 5 for 10 over the Padres series with three doubles. Farmer leads the club with a .349 batting average this season.
The flip side? Designated-hitter Kris Bryant and first baseman Michael Toglia are a combined 16 for 95 at the plate (.168) so far in 2025.
The Rockies return to Coors Field on Friday against the Phillies to debut their latest City Connect uniforms.
