Hess Road delays begin Monday as bridge project commences in Douglas County
Douglas County officials warn of 10-minute commuting delays along popular Interstate 25 thoroughfare.
Douglas County will start work on the Hess Road bridge rehabilitation project in Parker Monday and significant delays are expected.
For at least the next 90 days, Hess Road, an eight-mile stretch connecting I-25 at Castle Pines to and from South Parker Road, will experience, on average, 10-minute delays throughout most of summertime, according to Douglas County officials.
Crews will upgrade portions of the current bridge and repair the pavement where the bridge meets the roadway, officials said. During this time, a temporary traffic signal and flaggers will direct alternating single-lane traffic.
Crews will reconstruct 258 feet of bridge structure over Ancestry Drive, an existing access road underneath Hess Road.
Motorists should plan to make a full stop at the signal and wait for the green light before traveling through the work area, officials said, adding the project will reduce speed limits and close lanes on a 24/7 basis.
Transportation officials said improvements include removing portions of the existing structure, asphalt milling, joint sealant replacement, expansion device installation, waterproofing membrane application, hot mix asphalt paving, concrete patching, erosion control measures, and traffic control operations and other related work.
Hess Road’s rehabilitation cost is tagged at $430,673, according to Douglas County officials.
After pushback from nearby Castle Pines residents, the county dropped its original plan to close westbound access to the Castle Pines Parkway and I-25 interchange and found a solution to keep the interchange fully open.
Meanwhile, Douglas County transportation officials suggested alternative routes between I-25 and Parker.
The construction work schedule is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
