Aurora police seeking help in identifying deceased man

The Aurora Police Department and Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office are seeking help in identifying a deceased man discovered earlier this month.

The man’s remains were discovered under the overpass crossing Toll Gate Creek near Potomac Street on April 1 while police were responding to an altercation near Interstate 225 and 6th Avenue, according to a news release Tuesday. There was no identification on him.

After an autopsy, the coroner determined the remains to be from a 5-foot-5-inch tall African American man in his 30s and weighing approximately 140 pounds, according to the release. The man had short, curly black hair and was wearing a leather bomber-style jacket, a grey crop-topped, hooded sweatshirt with decorative grommets and strings along the sides, black sweatpants, camouflage shorts and light brown boots.

The police investigation to date suggests the man may be a transient named Ben who frequented the East Colfax and I-225 corridors prior to his death.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office at (720) 874-3625 or email at [email protected]. Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
