Nuggets vs. Clippers: 3 takeaways from Denver’s dramatic loss in Game 2

The Nuggets were one more made 3 away from a second-straight overtime game, but neither Christian Braun nor Nikola Jokic connected.

Here are three takeaways from Denver’s 105-102 loss Monday at Ball Arena:

1. Losing home-court advantage could be extremely costly for the Nuggets. All the Clippers have to do to advance to the second round is take care of business on their new home court, the Intuit Dome. The dome was designed to maximize the Clippers’ home-court advantage and features “The Wall,” a 51-row section reserved for the Clippers’ most passionate fans. Teams with a 2-0 series lead have advanced to the next round nearly 93% of the time in history. The Nuggets will be the first team to visit the arena for a playoff game on Thursday. Denver will need to find a way to win one in Inglewood if they want to advance.

2. The script flipped in Game 2. After Denver turned 20 Clippers turnovers into 29 points in Saturday’s win, the Nuggets committed 20 turnovers on Monday. Los Angeles turned those giveaways into 21 points. Denver managed 12 points off the Clippers’ 11 turnovers. That more than made up the difference.

3. Going to DeAndre Jordan was a smart move from Nuggets coach David Adelman, but not all good ideas work out well. The Clippers were less strict when it came to mirroring Nikola Jokic’s minutes with Ivica Zubac’s. When Jokic went to the bench to start the second quarter, Zubac remained on the court. Adelman countered with the veteran center, who didn’t play in Game 1. The Clippers erased Denver’s six-point lead I the first few minutes of the second. Adelman made another good call when he left Jokic on the court to start the fourth quarter.
