Teen driver killed, six hospitalized after failed stop in Thornton
A teen driver was killed and six people were sent to the hospital after a crash invlolving multiple vehicles in Thornton Wednesday evening.
Initial information indicates that the driver of the vehicle was a 17-year-old male who was speeding on eastbound 104th Avenue and did not yield to an officer’s lights and sirens, according to a news release from the Thornton Police Department Thursday morning.
Shortly after failing to slow down for the officer, the vehicle crashed into multiple other vehicles at the intersection of East 104th Avenue and McKay Road, according to the release.
The driver died at the scene and six individuals were transported to the hospital, with one still in critical condition Thursday.
Police first alerted the public of the incident at 5 p.m. Wednesday, closing the intersection in all directions and posting a notice about the incident on X. The intersection was reopened to the public at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the release.
The driver’s name is currently being withheld until the Adams County Coroner’s Office notifies family and performs an autopsy.
