Nuggets vs. Clippers: 3 takeaways from Denver’s dramatic Game 4 win

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Aaron Gordon’s buzzer-beating dunk evened the Nuggets and Clippers series at two games apiece Saturday.

Here are three takeaways from Denver’s 101-99 win Saturday at Intuit Dome:

1. Just like 2019, the Nuggets were able to move past a deflating Game 3 loss and win Game 4 on the road. Homecourt advantage is back on Denver’s side after the Nuggets recorded their first win at Intuit Dome in their third try. All the Nuggets must do is win the two remaining games at Ball Arena, and Denver will be back in the second round for the third consecutive season.

2. Tempers flared in the final seconds of the second quarter, and the referees handled it almost perfectly. James Harden got in Christian Braun’s face after a foul. Nikola Jokic got between the two before the shoving started. Aaron Gordon and James Harden were the most involved, and both received technical fouls. Jokic, Braun, Kris Dunn and Ivica Zubac also received technical fouls. Jokic was the least involved of the group, but the technicals offset.

3. The Nuggets made a couple of smart defensive adjustments in Game 4. Braun, Gordon and Peyton Watson picked up James Harden and Kawhi Leonard much higher up the court, similarly to the way the Clippers have guarded Denver in the first few games. Denver was also daring Kris Dunn to take open 3s more than they did in previous games. It helped that Dunn, Nicolas Batum and Norman Powell were 3 for 17 from 3-point range through three quarters.
