Jamal Murray to play through illness in Denver Nuggets’ Game 6

The Nuggets’ starting point guard said fatigue wasn’t a factor after Denver gave up fourth-quarter leads in Games 4 and 5 of the second-round series against Oklahoma City, but health might be a different story.

Jamal Murray was added to Denver’s injury report hours before Game 6 tipped off Thursday night. He was listed as questionable to play with an illness before the team announced he would be available 45 minutes before tipoff.

“I found out this morning. I’m not a doctor,” Adelman said.

“He is definitely sick.”

The Nuggets are facing elimination after the Thunder regained home-court advantage in Game 4 and put the Nuggets on the brink of elimination Tuesday. Adelman said the team had discussed contingency plans if Murray was too sick to play.

“There’s a lot of ways we can go,” Adelman said. “Good options, but obviously, hoping Jamal plays.”

It was a challenging season for Murray from a health perspective. He dealt with a series of minor ailments that forced him to miss 15 regular-season games.

The Nuggets, including Murray, dealt with a bug during their first-round series against the Clippers. He’s averaged 21.4 points, 4.6 assists and 4.4 rebounds in more than 41 minutes of playing time per game against the Thunder.

The only other players listed on Denver’s injury report are rookie DaRon Holmes II, who missed the entire year after tearing his Achilles tendon at Summer League, and Hunter Tyson, who recently sprained an ankle. Both are out for Game 6.

Rookie Nikola Topic, yet to make his NBA debut after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, is the only player on Oklahoma City’s injury report ahead of the Thunder’s chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals against Minnesota.
