Lime’s newest vehicle coming to Denver is part scooter, part bicycle

Another kind of Lime vehicle is already whirring around Denver.

The new LimeGlider, a seated, motor-powered pedal-less hybrid between Lime’s electric scooters and bicycles, gives riders a third transportation option that is more compact and comfortable than the company’s bicycles, according to a news release from Lime.

“During our initial pilots last year, it was clear that the LimeGlider earned the love of our riders, with people returning to them frequently for local travel,” said Lime President Joe Kraus in the release. “The LimeGlider makes strides in offering a convenient and inclusive experience to a wider number of riders, while sacrificing nothing in the joy all Lime vehicles inspire.”

Denver was one of five cities — Austin, San Francisco, Seattle and Zurich, Switzerland being the other four — chosen to receive the initial rollout of the gliders, which began appearing on the city’s streets on Wednesday, the release said.

The company chose Denver for a variety of reasons, including the city having among the most ridership of any in the country, as well as its Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s commitment to build infrastructure, such as bike lanes and parking, that support smaller ride sharing vehicles, according to the release.

“Denver is already a model micromobility city in North America and it still has unlimited potential to keep improving the experience for riders and for all road users,” said Zach Williams, senior director of government relations at Lime, via the release. “We’re grateful to the city and to DOTI for its embrace of sustainable transportation and we look forward to continuing to deepen the partnership we have built together in 2025.”

Denver received an initial fleet of 250 LimeGliders, with the goal to grow the number to 500 throughout the year in correlation with demand, a spokesperson from Lime said Friday.

The company’s initial rollout across the five will precede a launch of more htan 10,000 LimeGliders and LimeBikes in nearly a dozen cities across Europe and North America this summer, according to the release.
