Denver weather: Hot Friday around metro Denver, soggy and wet Memorial Day weekend
THE DENVER GAZETTE
Very warm temperatures and ample sunshine Friday around metro Denver precede a soggy and wet Memorial Day weekend.
Denver residents can expect mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 86, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. South winds to blow between 6 to 9 mph become north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph.
“A couple severe thunderstorms will be possible on the eastern plains Friday afternoon and early evening, mainly along and east of a Sterling to Akron line,” the NWS said.
Tonight it’ll be partly cloudy, with a low around 53. North northeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
Rain shower chances each day during the 3-day weekend are forecast and high temperatures will return to seasonal levels during the time frame as well.
“Storm coverage and intensity will see an increase by Saturday, with a few severe storms possible along the Front Range and I-25 Corridor,” the NWS said. “Scattered to numerous showers and storms can then be expected through Sunday, but cooler weather will likely limit instability and any severe storm threat.”
Memorial Day should offer a little lower shower and storm coverage, but temperatures remain a few degrees below normal.
Here’s the 4-day forecast from the National Weather Service.
Saturday: A chance of showers, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Light and variable wind becoming northeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
