According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), a bear was recently spotted in Castle Rock “learning bad behaviors.”
A post on X shows a video of a bear digging through a trash can outside a house in Castle Rock. “It’s so easy to pile trash cans next to the house before trash day, but let’s go the extra mile to secure them inside to prevent bears from finding food.
According to CPW, once a bear eats a meal of trash, it remembers the spot and returns repeatedly. CPW continues by saying that we want bears to find natural foods in the world and that it’s important to keep trash locked up and secure, take down birdfeeders, and invest in bear-resistant garbage cans.
CPW also says that if you do see a bear in your neighborhood you can haze it by yelling at the bear to make it leave.
