Suspect surrenders to police in shooting near Academy and Palmer Park

A 25-year-old surrendered to police Sunday in connection with a shooting that wounded six people late Saturday near Academy and Palmer Park boulevards.

Deomni Myers is expected to be charged with attempted first-degree murder, Colorado Springs police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m. in the 1400 block of Potter Drive near the Olympic Gardens Apartments after an argument broke out, according to police.

Medics rushed four gunshot victims to the hospital. Two more victims arrived at the hospital in personal vehicles. Police said one of the victims was listed in critical condition. The person was stable as of Monday afternoon, police spokesman Ira Cronin said.

One resident in the area said Sunday morning that he heard dozens of shots from at least one rifle and saw large shell casings on the street.

Myers has a criminal history involving drug and alcohol use, including underage drinking, Colorado court records dating back to 2013 show. He has never been charged with a violent crime.

He posted bail on Monday. His bond was set at $50,000, court records show.

Judge Josianne Purchio is scheduled to advise him of his charges on June 6. His next court hearing is set for June 11.

The police are still working to identify if other people were involved.
