Tesla’s European sales fall by half in April despite overall increase in electric vehicle purchases
Tesla sales across Europe fell by half in April despite the electric car market seeing growth on the continent, according to European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association data released Tuesday.
Tesla sales fell by 49% in 32 European countries, with 7,261 sold in April 2025 compared to 14,228 in April 2024. Meanwhile, electric vehicle sales rose by 28%.
The new data comes as Tesla CEO Elon Musk faces anti-Tesla protests across Europe and the United States over his support of right-wing politicians.
Tesla’s European sales fell roughly 39% in the first four months of the year.
WHAT IS DOGE? WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY
The drop in Tesla sales also comes as President Donald Trump has threatened to put a 50% tariff on EU goods, but he has since delayed the duties until July. This threat has led some Europeans to forgo buying American goods.
Tesla is dealing with an aging model lineup and strong competition from Chinese electric vehicle companies. China’s SAIC saw its sales increase by 54% in April.
