An Aurora man died on Tuesday after a fall while on a hike in Chaffee County, the sheriff’s office said.
Ronald Eugene Stamm, 38, was hiking on the Agnes Vaille Falls trail southwest of Buena Vista with his wife and daughter. After they made it to the falls, Stamm wanted to continue hiking, while his family members returned to the trailhead, according to a Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Based on evidence found at the scene, Stamm attempted to climb a cliff face at the falls without equipment, possibly lost his grip and fell more than 100 feet, the sheriff’s office said.
Hikers found his body in the creek bottom near the falls, about a half-mile from the trailhead. Sheriff’s office deputies responded about 4 p.m. to the scene.
