Alyaa Abdulghany secures Inspirato Colorado Women’s Open title in playoff
Alyaa Abdulghany needed a couple extra holes to secure her first Colorado Women’s Open title.
Abdulghany followed up her tournament-record 64 on Thursday with a 67 in the final round on Friday to grab medalist honors at Green Valley Ranch. But Brianna Do also fired a 67 with four birdies on the back nine to force a playoff.
After both players made par on the first playoff hole, the 18th, Abdulghany made another par on the second playoff hole while Do made bogey to give Abdulghany, who played her college golf at USC, the crown.
The 26-year old birdied the 11th and 12th holes before closing the day with six straight pars.
She has been in contention before at Green Valley Ranch as she finished low amateur in 2020 and took fourth place last year. Abdulghany plays on the EPSON Tour and is the fourth low amateur to win the tournament, joining LPGA star Jennifer Kupcho, Coloradan Becca Huffer and Erin Kerr Houtsma.
Abdulghany, of Newport Beach, Calif., also lost to Rose Zhang in the semifinals of the 2020 U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Huffer finished in third, two shots out of the playoff due to three bogeys on the back nine. She was trying to become the first three-time winner of the Colorado Women’s Open and the first player from Colorado to win the event since 2020 when Kupcho won.
University of Colorado golfer Morgan Miller finished in 13th place to claim the honor of low amateur. She shot 3-under during the three-day tournament.
