Denver City Council to consider National Western Equestrian Center project funding

A resolution that would provide $800 million over 35 years to provide financial support for the National Western Equestrian Center project will return to Denver City Council chambers for a third time.

Council members previously delayed approving the project support agreement to allow for more community conversations between National Western representatives, city officials and residents.

The council will also consider a $1.18 million contract between the city and Textron E-Z-GO, LLC  for the purchase of GPS-based tablets for golf carts.

According to city documents, the new GPS system will “enhance the guest experience” by adding additional services and functions. It will also provide a way for Denver Golf to better track the pace of play on the course, cart usage and battery life.

Elsewhere on the agenda is a two-year, $1 million operational and marketing incentive for United Airlines to promote its current nonstop international air service to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, expanding global connections from Denver International Airport.

There will be two proclamations this week.

The first proclamation will recognize the Healthy Food for Denver Kids (HFDK) Ballot Measure and celebrate its work to date.

The second will acknowledge the five-year anniversary of Denver’s Support Team Assisted Response (STAR) Program. STAR provides person-centric mobile crisis response to community members who are experiencing problems related to mental health, depression, poverty, homelessness as well as substance use issues.

There will be three public hearings during the 5:30 p.m. session.

  • 25-0629: Parks and Recreation will present a bill for an ordinance approving and accepting the park building plan for the Mestizo-Curtis Bathhouse pursuant to the provisions of Sections 39-210 and 39-211 of the Denver Revised Municipal Code.

  • 25-0234: Community Planning and Development will present a bill for an ordinance changing the zoning classification for 4141 E. 35th Ave. in Northeast Park Hill.

  • 25-0335: Community Planning and Development will present a bill for an ordinance changing the zoning classification for 4634 and 4638 N. York St. in Elyria Swansea.

The Denver City Council will hold its regular Monday meeting at 3:30 p.m., with the general public comment session beginning at 5 p.m.
