A high-speed pursuit in Colorado resulted in a head-on collision that sent seven people to the hospital on June 2, according to Colorado State Patrol.

According to a press release on the matter, a Colorado State Patrol trooper initially attempted to stop the driver of a 2008 Nissan Altima for speeding, though the trooper opted not to engage in a pursuit when the driver failed to yield.

A driver in the same vehicle was later engaged in a pursuit by an officer with Walsenburg Police. During that pursuit, the driver is said to have crossed a median while traveling northbound on I-25 near mile marker 48, striking a 2018 Dodge Durango head-on at about 5:41 p.m.

Following the crash, two people in the Nissan Altima were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, while four occupants of the Durango were taken to a hospital for minor to moderate injuries. A Walsenburg Police Department officer was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries related to the crash.

Details about the identity of the driver of the Altima have not been released, nor has information related to what potential criminal charges the suspect driver could face.

All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
