Safety concerns close one of the most popular trails in Colorado Springs
Amid heavy rainfall and the potential for hazardous conditions, the United States Forest Service has made the decision to temporarily shut down Seven Bridges Trail – one of the most popular trails in the Colorado Springs area.
According to a press release on the matter, the Pikes Peak Ranger District of the Forest Service has closed the trail from its North Cheyenne Cañon trailhead along Gold Camp Road to the southeast corner of a spot called Jones Park.
Officials have requested that members of the public avoid this area until conditions improve and the closure is lifted, with no expected timeline for that reopening provided. It was noted that updates will be regularly posted on the PSICC alerts page, which can be found here.
It’s also worth noting that the closure of Seven Bridges Trail isn’t the only impact recent rain has had in North Cheyenne Cañon. Heavy water flow washed out a significant portion of the namesake paved route into the canyon, with this resulting in an indefinite closure of this road and its gravel counterpart, Gold Camp Road, for all vehicles and bicycles. Seven Bridges Trailhead is found where these two roads meet, which would mean accessing the trail from its far-more-popular lower entrance would have been difficult prior to the closure, requiring a lengthy hike along Gold Camp Road or High Drive.
Seven Bridges Trail is found in North Cheyenne Cañon on the west side of Colorado Springs. The trail travels about 3.4 miles round-trip with around 850 feet of elevation gain, according to AllTrails. The trail can also be used to access to other trails in the area.
