More than 900 flights in and out of Denver International Airport were delayed as of 6:45 p.m. Friday afternoon due to thunderstorms, as much of the eastern part of Colorado was placed under a tornado watch.
Of the 900-plus delays, 310 were Southwest Airlines flights, 230 were SkyWest flights and 226 were United Flights, according to the website FlightAware.com.
Flights arriving into DIA have been delayed an average of 1 hour and 26 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Despite the high number of delays, only 24 flights in or out of DIA had been fully cancelled as of 6:45 p.m., according to FlightAware.
Much of eastern Colorado was placed under a Tornado Watch effective until 9 p.m. Friday night, according to a post from the National Weather Service on social media.

The watch comes with possible threats of tornadoes, scattered hail up to the size of softballs and possible wind gusts of up to 75 mph throughout the evening, according to the weather service.
The section of the state affected by the Tornado Watch included the Interstate 25 corridor from Denver to the New Mexico border, and then stretching east until Kansas, the weather service said.
