Living the adventurous lifestyle that Colorado is known for tends to mean a lot of driving, making it no surprise that the Centennial State has been pinned as the most ‘gas station snack-obsessed’ state nationwide.
A recent report from Canada Sports Betting took a look at road trip snacking trends in both Canada and the United States. In order to determine which spots were the most interested in gas station snacks, the company used Google tools to see where the most searches for gas station snacks take place, also taking into account the local population when determining a final ranking.
Those in Colorado were shown to be on the hunt for gas station snacks the most, with 261,280 searches for the food source. This compares to the state with the second-highest number of searches for the query, Texas, and its 217,710 searches – Texas ended up ranking 6th overall once population was taken into account. Behind Colorado in the second-place rank was Delaware, where 20,430 searches took place with a state population of about one million.
The data analysis also took a look at what snacks were searched for most frequently – in the US, the top five snacks were Doritos, Cheetos, Oreos, Snickers, and Skittles – in that order. Meanwhile, Canadians were shown to have totally different preferences when it came to their top five – Kit Kat, Oh Henry!, Smarties, Pringles, and Beef Jerky.
If this writer had to guess, beef jerky would probably make it as a top pick in Colorado had the company created a ranking of favorite snacks on a state-by-state basis. After all, beef jerky gets plenty of love among those involved in the state’s outdoor recreation community with outdoor recreation being a key reason people are traveling around the state in the first place.
