Jinya Ramen Bar bringing signature slow-cooked ramen to downtown Colorado Springs

Los Angeles-based Jinya Ramen Bar is bringing its slow-cooked signature ramen to Colorado Springs, offering local patrons an authentic take on the popular Japanese dish in a modern setting.

Colorado Springs’ first Jinya location will open downtown on Monday at 402 S. Nevada Ave., next door to Loyal Coffee. It is the brand’s fourth location in Colorado, opening roughly nine months after gourmet ramen restaurant Night Ramen opened last fall in the Springs, about five blocks northeast at 324 E. Pikes Peak Ave.

“This city is open to embracing different types of cuisines, and we felt that (Jinya Ramen Bar) really fit that box,” the restaurant’s co-franchisee Tony Avila said of his team’s efforts to enter the Colorado Springs market.

He operates the Colorado Springs location as well as two other Jinya locations in Denver and Fort Collins with co-franchisee Brad Smith and their operating partner Dino Arvanetes. Jinya also has another location in Black Hawk.

Known for its “slow-cooked approach to ramen,” Jinya offers a bona fide ramen house experience much like one would have in Japan, Avila said.

“I think that’s important, when you’re taking about opening a ramen concept and a Japanese brand, that there are authentic recipes, preparation and processes behind it,” he said.

Founder and CEO Tomo Takahashi opened his first Jinya restaurant in Tokyo in 2000. It was a nod to his father, a successful Japanese restaurateur who had owned a restaurant, also named Jinya, that was focused on providing affordable, delicious food accessible by all, the website states.

When Takahashi arrived in the United States in 2010 and struggled to find a restaurant where he could enjoy authentic ramen, he expanded Jinya Ramen Bar stateside, opening his first location in California.

Jinya Ramen Bar's six signature broths are simmered in-house for about 20 hours and then paired with handcrafted noodles. The menu offers a variety of customizable toppings for the ramen, and customers can choose from several vegetarian options, too.

Today, there are more than 70 Jinya Ramen Bar locations across 22 states and in Canada. The Colorado Springs location will be the brand’s 73rd, and five more restaurants are planned in five states, the website shows.

Other menu selections include small plates such as gyoza, a type of Japanese dumpling, spring rolls, sushi and more; rice bowls and curry; miniature tacos; salads; desserts like mochi ice cream; a kid’s meal featuring meat and vegetarian options; and several signature cocktails and mocktails.

Jinya’s authentic take on ramen is blended with the restaurant’s modern design and finishes for an immersive experience, Avila said.

“I think you’re going to see, from the patio all the way to the wood and the mural on the wall, the design is very modern and elegant looking — upscale. The music playing inside is very lively and vibrant. … It’s a very upbeat, lively experience that you’re going to come away from,” Avila said.

To celebrate its Colorado Springs debut on Monday, Jinya is offering its first 100 guests free ramen on their next visit.

Beginning Monday, Jinya is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
