Kroenke Sports is now the sole owner of Elitch Gardens
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment is now the sole owner of several properties along the proposed River Mile development including Elitch Gardens and Meow Wolf.
The sports manager of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and the Colorado Rapids announced Thursday it bought the rest of its stake in the River Mile development from its partner Revesco Properties.
Revesco and Kroenke Sports have been partners since 2015, when the two bought the downtown Denver theme park together.
The sale of Elitch Gardens closed on June 11, according to a press release. The deal also included 1338 1st Street, which is home to Meow Wolf and other properties.

The land around the South Platte River including Elitch Gardens and the parking lots around Ball Area is poised for a major redevelopment known as the River Mile.
Last year, Denver City Council approved rezoning Ball Arena’s 50 acres of parking to create a neighborhood described as an extension of downtown Denver, set to bring more housing, parks, shopping and bike lanes to the center of the city.

“Realizing sole ownership of these properties will allow us to streamline our comprehensive vision for the future development encompassing The River Mile and the adjacent Ball Arena campus,” said Kroenke’s owner and chairman Stan Kroenke in the release. “We are grateful to Revesco for many years of productive collaboration.”
In 2023, Revesco Properties officials said they were considering moving Elitch Gardens somewhere else within the metro Denver area to make way for the River Mile development.
They were in talks with officials in Aurora, but there have been few updates since on whether or not the theme park is moving.
Elitch Gardens and Meow Wolf will continue operating as normal following the sale, Kroenke’s announcement said Thursday.

The theme park has its roots dating back to 1890 when it opened as a zoo at its original location at 38th and Tennyson streets in Denver’s West Highland neighborhood. It later became a theater and a ballroom and an amusement park. It moved to its current downtown location in 1994.
Rhys Duggan, the founder of Revesco Properties, said in the release that he was proud of their work to run Elitch Gardens over the last decade and helping conceive the River Mile development.
“We believe the blueprint has been set for the future of Central Denver and that both the Park and The River Mile vision are in good hands with Mr. Kroenke and his family,” he said.
