In case you missed it, a record-setting rescue mission took place in Colorado late last Thursday, involving the helicopter rescue of two men from New York who had been struck by lightning in the summit area of 14,300-foot Torreys Peak. It’s believed to be the highest-altitude helicopter rescue to have ever taken place in the state, with the rescue itself taking place at about 14,200 feet of elevation.

The lightning strike resulted in one man sustaining minor injuries while the other was knocked unconscious for a period and critically injured, airlifted to a Denver area hospital’s burn unit.

In days that have followed, Denver’s KDVR connected with the critically injured 27-year-old man’s family for an update on his status.

According to the man’s father, he sustained burns on his chest, legs, and kidneys, and is expected to be in the hospital for weeks. The other man was treated and soon released.

The man who was critically injured is married and has six kids. A GoFundMe has been created to help support the family during this time.
