$27,995,000 Colorado ranch near Pagosa Springs hits market
The Mountain Bird Ranch, a 610-acre legacy ranch 20 miles southwest of Pagosa Springs, Colorado, has been put on the market.
LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LIV SIR) announced Wednesday that the property, buildings, and all the splendor surrounding it, which was designed and previously owned by the late singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg, is for sale for a whopping $27,995,000.
According to LIV SIR, the ranch was envisioned and created by the renowned Fogelberg and boasts rolling land, aspen groves, and meadows. The house and property are surrounded by the San Juan National Forest southwest of Pagosa Springs.
LIV SIR said 120 acres around the houses, barn, and other buildings are fenced in, with the additional 490 acres open for grazing. The property is sold with extensive water rights, and LIV SIR broker Dan Dockray is the representing agent.
Dockray says the property is “surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest, making Mountain Bird Ranch intimate and extraordinary.”
Dockray said the property is a once-in-a-lifetime legacy opportunity, and the new owners can enjoy the best of the mountain lifestyle at the family estate.
“World-class fishing, hiking, biking, skiing, and hunting are all at your doorstep,” Dockray said.
Built in 1982 and situated at 8,500 feet, the ranch’s 8,695-square-foot main house and 3,214-square-foot guest house have 10 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, providing plenty of space to host extended family and friends for adventure, recreation, and relaxation.’
LIV SIR said the property would be great for equestrians who love the indoor riding arena with horse stalls, a barn, and ranch recreation. The ranch includes fly-fishing, the alpine lake and pond stocked with trout, and hiking or horseback riding on trails.
Other notable features include a library, a fitness room, and a billiards room.
LIV SIR said after a day on the trails, you can relax and listen to Fogelberg’s collection of almost 1,000 albums.
Fogelberg lived at the property from the early 1980s until he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in May 2004.
According to LIV SIR, Wolf Creek Ski Area is less than 50 miles away and often boasts the most snow in Colorado. There are trails throughout the ranch for hiking and horseback riding without ever leaving the gates.
From Pagosa Springs, the ranch is south on Highway 84 through a scenic basin bordered by 11,000- and 12,000-foot peaks,
“Driving to the ranch, you’ll meander along the creek, passing beautiful ranches and wildlife everywhere,” Dockray said. “Then you enter the ranch, and the forest opens up as manicured grounds come into view.”
According to LIV SIR, Pagosa Springs is only 35 miles away. It has dining, shopping, and a hot springs resort that the new homeowners can enjoy when not at the property.
