Jefferson County deputies arrested a man who allegedly attempted to kidnap an 8-year-old girl Saturday.
In the morning, deputies arrested Bradley Mikel Wilson, 34, on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, according to a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office news release Saturday night.
At around 11:30 a.m., deputies arrived at a Safeway store at 5025 S. Kipling Parkway, where, at the time, Wilson had fled the scene.
Authorities said the 8-year-old girl was shopping with her grandmother in the produce section. There, the stranger approached the girl, put his hand on her shoulder, then said something like “May I borrow your child?” and attempted to walk out of the store with her, according to the sheriff’s office.
The girl broke away from Wilson and ran back to her grandmother before the man re-entered the store and attempted to snatch the girl again, sheriff’s officials said.
Authorities noted that Wilson then left the store after employees and the grandmother yelled at him, fleeing in his vehicle.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Deputies found Wilson at Highway 285 and Willow Springs Road, where he was arrested without incident, according to the sheriff’s office.
Officials said Wilson, who is being held in the Jefferson County Detention Facility, faces 2nd-degree kidnapping charges and will appear in front of a judge on Monday.
