With summer cookout season now underway, there’s no doubt many Americans are looking forward to hot dogs hot off the grill. But did you know that Colorado – well, technically Denver – has it’s own ‘style’ when it comes to this classic genre of cuisine.

You’ve probably heard of the Chicago dog – pickles, celery salt, tomatoes, pickled peppers, chopped onions, and ‘neon’ green relish on a poppy seed bun. You’ve probably heard of the ‘Coney’-style dog, topped with chili, onions, and a pile of finely-shredded cheese. You may even know about the ‘Dodger’ dog, with its popular mix of ketchup, mustard, onion, and relish. But you probably haven’t heard of the ‘Denver’ dog – yet.

According to a food company known for their sausages – Applegate – the ‘Denver Dog’ is topped with green chile, red onions, jalapeños, and sour cream – a hot dog with “miles of flavor” for the Mile High City. It’s a spicy, tangy, creamy mix of ingredients that aren’t always found on the toppings table at the summer barbecue.
