Man convicted of manslaughter in Denver hot sauce stabbing
A jury convicted a man of manslaughter on Monday for stabbing his uncle to death during an argument that began over a bottle of hot sauce.
George Vigil, 22, faces up to six years in prison for stabbing his uncle, Robert Vigil, at a home in the 2300 block of Federal Boulevard after the two got into a dispute over the location of a hot sauce bottle, according to 9News and a news release from the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Man suspected of fatally stabbing uncle over hot sauce had previously been charged with murder in 2021
The two had to be separated amidst the argument, with Robert suggesting that they “take it outside,” according to 9News. A witness then told police that she saw George, who often carried a switchblade knife in his pocket, swing his arm toward Robert’s side.
George later told police that Robert had punched him in the head before he had stabbed his uncle, 9News said.
“We hope that the verdict holding George Vigil accountable for his actions that day will provide some measure of comfort to Robert’s friends and family,” Denver District Attorney John Walsh said in the release.
George Vigil is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 22.
