Tens of thousands of people lined East 17th Avenue in Denver on Sunday for one of the nation’s largest Pride celebrations.
Sunday’s parade highlighted a weekend of LGBTQ+ celebrations in downtown Denver.
Overall, organizers estimated that Sunday’s Denver PrideFest event attracted 120,000 people and that weekend events combined to attract 500,000, despite roughly $230,000 of lost sponsorship funds for this year’s annual celebration.
The parade typically travels down East Colfax Avenue. However, due to current BRT transportation construction in portions of the corridor, the parade this year was rerouted to East 17th Avenue from Franklin Street to Lincoln Street.

Denver first celebrated Pride with a parade in 1974, leading to the creation of The Center on Colfax, an LGBTQ+ community center, in 1976. The Center continues to produce PrideFest.
Today, Denver PrideFest features a 5K run, live music, a marketplace, food vendors and a variety of activities.
Molson Coors and Vizzy Hard Seltzer are primary sponsors of the event, with the parade being renamed the Vizzy Denver Pride Parade.
“Their contributions not only aid us in putting on a fun, free and safe celebration for our community, but also support our critical year-round programs at The Center on Colfax,” Denver PrideFest officials said.
However, Denver’s LGBTQ+ celebration lost roughly $230,000 in sponsorships this year.
In a statement, Natalie Zanoni, COO of The Center, previously said 83% of all contributions are used in free programs the group offers to LGBTQ+ individuals.
The decrease, first reported in April, comes amid a national rollback of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives amid companies shifting their budget priorities, according to officials.
“The decrease in funding we are experiencing puts these critical services at risk, such as mental health support, programming for our trans and gender diverse community, youth, older adults, and more,” Zanoni previously said.
Lost sponsorship dollars didn’t stop the hundreds of thousands who attended festivities over the weekend.
The parade featured a plethora of entertainers, music, art, free handouts and different nonprofit and city organizations celebrating the occasion.
