One dead in fiery Aurora Jeep crash

Police tape

One person died in a single-vehicle crash in Aurora Monday morning, according to the Aurora Police Department.

At approximately 12:32 a.m. District two officers responded to a report of a vehicle on fire on Airport Boulevard, south of Smith Road.

When Aurora Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Upon extinguishing the fire, a single person was found dead in the driver’s seat, according to an APD news release.

Investigators believe that the Jeep Renegade was heading northbound on Airport Boulevard when it lost control, striking a tree, and landed in a nearby parking lot where it caught fire.

Speed is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash.

The Arapahoe County Coroner will release the identification of the deceased driver pending notification of family and an autopsy.

The crash marked Aurora’s 19th traffic-related fatality of 2025.
