Jonas Valanciunas didn’t sound happy to be headed to Denver.

Speaking publicly for the first time since the Nuggets agreed to acquire the veteran center from Sacramento, Valanciunas addressed his future Tuesday at the B8 Summit in his native Lithuania.

“When the trade is finalized, we’ll come up with a plan,” Valanciunas said, according to Lithuanian outlet 15min. “The [Nuggets] will express their wishes, how they think, how they see it… medical, other details. That will depend on the team.”

Valanciunas and Greek club Panathinaikos have reportedly reached a verbal agreement on a contract, but the 33-year-old is still under contract in the NBA. The trade that would bring Valanciunas to Denver and send Dario Saric to Sacramento was yet to be finalized as of Tuesday afternoon. The Nuggets’ acquisition of Cam Johnson from Brooklyn from Michael Porter Jr. was the first domino to fall.

Once the trade is processed Denver and Valanciunas can start working on a buyout. The Nuggets reportedly intend to have Valanciunas honor his $10.4 million contract for next season. If Valanciunas really wants to facilitate a move back to Europe, he could forfeit some or all of his salary as part of a contract buyout. That amount would then become available for Denver to use to potentially acquire another backup center.

“We’ll only find out when the first game is played,” Valanciunas said. “Everything will be clear.”

After starting his professional career in Lithuania, Valanciunas made the move to the NBA in 2012. He’s played for the Raptors, Grizzlies, Pelicans, Wizards and Kings in the 13 years since. After his first public remarks, whether he wears a Nuggets uniform remains uncertain.
