Denver weather: Will record heat happen Wednesday across the city?

Potential record-tying or record-breaking heat is possible Wednesday around metro Denver as the mercury rises close to 100 degrees.

Denver residents can expect sunny skies and hot temperatures, with a high near 99, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. South southwest winds between 6 to 9 mph become north northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.

The record high temperature for July 9 is 100 degrees set back in 2022.

A heat advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., today for areas around Fort Collins, Boulder, Denver and the Denver suburbs.

Tonight it’ll be partly cloudy, with a low around 69. West winds around 9 mph become south in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.

Rain showers and thunderstorms return to metro Denver for Thursday and Friday, along with slightly cooler temperatures.

Possible rain on Saturday followed by sunny skies Sunday rounds out the first fully week of July in Denver.

Here’s the 4-day forecast from the National Weather Service.

Thursday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 93. South wind 8 to 14 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

Friday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. West southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming east northeast in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph.

Saturday: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 92.
