Evacuation lifted for Louviers as firefighters gain control of brush fires
Authorities have lifted an evacuation order for residents in Louviers, a small unincorporated town in Douglas County south of Chatfield Reservoir, after firefighters gained control of two brush fires burned nearby Sunday afternoon.
As of 8:45 p.m., the fire is 90% contained after burning 130 acres, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire, first reported around 2 p.m. near 9844 Titan Court, spread into open space and has threatened at least one structure in town, according to South Metro Fire Rescue. As of 3 p.m., the fire continued to burn in dry conditions.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office lifted the evacuation order around 7:30 p.m. and said residents are free to return home.
Colorado Parks & Wildlife reported that Plum Creek Nature, Plum Creek Picnic, and Roxborough Cove parking at Chatfield State Park closed and were evacuated due to the nearby fires.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and fire officials called for an immediate evacuation of Louviers residents, and for those located east of Waterton Road, as a precaution.
No injuries or structural damage have been reported.
Crews from Douglas County, West Metro Fire Rescue, West Douglas Fire, and South Metro Fire Rescue are on scene, with support from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office helicopters.
Over 130 first responders fought the blaze, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s office.
The Douglas County Fairgrounds in Castle Rock was open for evacuees, the sheriff’s office said.
