A 12-year-old boy riding his scooter died after an alleged distracted teen driver struck him Saturday morning, according to the Aurora Police Department.
In a news release, police said the crash occurred just after 10 a.m. at the corner of East Iliff Avenue and South Wheel Park Circle.
The boy, at the time, was riding his scooter on a marked crosswalk and a green cross signal. A 19-year-old driver traveling eastbound on Iliff Avenue struck the boy, according to the police.
Police said the driver failed to pay attention and didn’t stop for the pedestrian signal.
The boy was transported to the hospital, where he later died, the police said.
Authorities are reconstructing the scene of the accident to determine the cause of the crash.
It is unclear exactly what allegedly distracted the driver at the Iliff Avenue crosswalk.
Charges against the driver are expected and are yet to be determined, according to police.
This crash marks Aurora’s 21st traffic-related fatality of 2025.
The crash remains under investigation.
