Some containment gained on 5 Colorado wildfires as blazes continue to burn
A couple weeks ago, multiple wildfires popped up around Colorado, prompting various evacuations and the closure of a national park. July 10 was a catalyst date due to ample lightning that blew through, and 11 days later, significant containment on each of these blazes is starting to be achieved.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s burning around the state of Colorado and what containment level has been reached, per Inciweb reporting:
1. Deer Creek Fire
Location: Near the Utah–Colorado state line, started in Utah and grew into Western Colorado
Acreage: 17,123 acres
Containment: 30 percent contained
2. Turner Gulch Fire
Location: Western Colorado, about 30 miles southwest of Grand Junction
Acreage: 15,737 acres
Containment: 34 percent contained
3. South Rim Fire
Location: Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
Acreage: 4,220 acres
Containment: 31 percent contained
4. Sowbelly Fire
Location: Near Delta, western Colorado
Acreage: 2,274 acres
Containment: 70 percent contained
5. Wright Draw Fire
Location: Western Colorado, about 30 miles southwest of Grand Junction and near the Turner Gulch Fire
Acreage: 466 acres
Containment: 51 percent contained
