Adams State, RMAC icon Joe Vigil dies at age 95 | Colorado Sunshine

R.I.P. to a Colorado icon.
Joe Vigil, a lifelong resident of Alamosa and RMAC Hall of Fame coach, died July 19 at the age of 95. Vigil coached 19 team national championships, 87 individual national champions and 425 All-Americans. He was inducted into 12 Halls of Fame.
Vigil coached cross country and track and field at Adams State from 1965-93 after coaching and teaching for 12 years at Alamosa High. He helped guide athletes to 20 Olympics and World Championships podium appearances.
Vigil was also the head coach of the 1997 US Pan American Games team and served as the long-distance running coach for the 1998 U.S. Olympics Team in Atlanta.
