‘Hop on’ air carrier JSX to begin service out of Centennial Airport

Some big news is about to land at Denver’s little airport.

Dallas-based JSX announced earlier this month that it will relocate its operations, currently based at Rocky Mountain Metro Airport (BJC) in Broomfield, and begin offering semi-private or “hop on public charter” air service at Centennial Airport (APA) on Sept. 10.

Service will include flights to Las Vegas and Scottsdale, Arizona, as well as seasonal service to Dallas and Burbank.

Passengers flying JSX will board using the Modern Aviation hanger on the south side of the airport at 8207 Interport Blvd. in Englewood, Centennial Airport Executive Director Mike Fronapfel told The Denver Gazette.

“Dedicated to serving smaller airports with reliable, crowd-free public charter flights, JSX offers a stress-free premium travel experience for all,” a statement from the company said. “Customers can check in just 20 minutes before flight departure with advanced, efficient security and well-appointed dedicated lounges. JSX’s spacious 30-seat jets are equipped with business class legroom, complimentary Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi, in-seat power outlets, and free gourmet inflight snacks and alcoholic beverages onboard.”

Public charter operations differ from those of commercial airlines.

They are often referred to as “charter by the seat” because passengers can book flights on a per-seat basis, rather than requiring them to charter an entire jet.

Typically, most operate out of smaller airports and use smaller jet aircraft with limited seating.

A ‘public charter’ exists when a person or company contracts for the operation of an aircraft to and from a destination and then advertises and sells the individual seats to members of the public, either directly or through a travel agent, according to the U.S Department of Transportation.

The company may be an airline or another entity, such as a tour or vacation package company, that operates seasonally between specific cities.

However, commercial airlines operate on a “regularly-scheduled” or pre-determined schedule, adhering to specific arrival and departure times, as well as published routes.

“We are excited to have JSX begin operating at Centennial Airport and we expect there will be a strong demand for their public charter service,” Fronapfel said. “JSX will bring more air travel options to our community, making it easier for more people to take advantage of the convenience of flying out of Centennial Airport.”

The last JSX flight from Scottsdale to Broomfield will be on Sept. 9.

Current Denver-area ticket holders for Sept. 10 and beyond will be automatically rebooked for Centennial Airport.

Those who do not wish to fly out of Centennial Airport will receive a full refund, according to JSX.

The air carrier currently operates 48 Embraer Regional Jet (ERJ) family aircraft and employs more than 1,000 crew members.

Centennial Airport, located approximately 18 miles south of downtown Denver, is a large general aviation airport. As such, regularly-scheduled commercial airline operations are not permitted.
