A mountain lion that killed a pet dog on July 25 in Boulder was captured and relocated Friday night.

According to a news release from the Boulder Police Department, a couple was walking their small dog at night on July 25 in the 2400 block of Balsam Avenue when a mountain lion suddenly jumped at the dog, killing it instantly. The mountain lion then took the dog’s body away.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) was notified of the incident. Animal protection officers located the dog’s body and removed the remains to stop the mountain lion from returning to the area.

Boulder Police said on Saturday that the mountain lion had remained in the area and was safely captured, tagged, and relocated Friday night. CPW and Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks helped with the effort.
