Bo Nix intercepted twice during practice | Broncos training camp Day 9

ENGLEWOOD — A behind-the-scenes look at Broncos training camp practice Monday with observations and analysis from The Denver Gazette.

Play of the day

Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham hit rookie wide receiver Pat Bryant on a deep touchdown pass in 11-on-11 play. A defensive bust left Bryant wide open downfield with safety Delarrin Turner-Yell and others in coverage. Bryant kept his poise to haul in the long scoring play.

Position battle

Running back: It was a strong day for running back Tyler Badie. He beat linebacker Jordan Turner in a one-on-one drill with a catch-and-run for a touchdown. His speed also popped on several rushes during team periods. Filling out the back end of the running backs room will be challenging as several reserves have impressed at training camp.

Stock rising

K Will Lutz: The Broncos kicker hit a 62-yard field goal — with plenty of room to spare — near the end of practice. Over his last two seasons in Denver, Lutz has made 61 of 68 field goal attempts. His reliability should provide an edge in close games next season. Lutz has been solid throughout the course of training camp during special teams drills.

Stock falling

QB Bo Nix: Nobody panic. One practice of Nix struggles will not define his season. But the starting quarterback was intercepted twice on Monday. His first pick to safety Devon Key happened in 7-on-7 on a pass intended for wide receiver Courtland Sutton. His second pick, to inside linebacker Justin Strnad, took place during 11-on-11 on a throw intended for tight end Evan Engram. Coach Sean Payton mocked anyone who might be worried.

Payton said: “We’re charting picks here like hurricanes. He’s doing fine.”

Attendance check

The Broncos practiced in shells with FB Michael Burton dressed to practice. But he did not participate in team periods. ILB Alex Singelton (thumb) participated in some drills and walkthroughs, but not in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11.
