Warming Bernabel is burning hot.
Bernabel, a Rockies rookie infielder, was named National League Player of the Week Monday. He was joined by American League honoree Trevor Story of the Red Sox.
Bernabel is the first Rockies player to win the award since Brenton Doyle on July 8, 2024. Bernabel made his MLB debut on July 26 of this season.
The 23-year-old Dominican Republic native hit .462 with two home runs, seven RBI, four doubles, a triple, five runs scored and a .923 slugging percentage across six games. He tied for the MLB lead with seven extra-base hits and 24 total bases. He tied for second in hits and doubles and his OPS ranked third. His batting average ranked third.
Bernabel became the second-youngest Rockies player with four hits and four RBI when he did so against the Cardinals. Ezequiel Tover did it last season as a rookie. Bernabel hit safely in each of his first seven games at the MLB level.
Story’s weekly honor was the sixth of his career, four of which came as a member of the Rockies. Story hit .391 with three homers, eight RBI, four doubles, two walks, seven runs scored and a .957 slugging percentage over six games.
