Aurora police arrested a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run on Colfax Avenue that killed a woman in a wheelchair, police said in a notification Friday. 

The crash happened late Sunday in the westbound lanes of Colfax Avenue at the I-225 onramp, according to police. 

Johandry De Los Santos Ruiz, 27, of Venezuela turned himself into police Thursday evening and was booked into the Aurora Detention Center on one count of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death, police said in the notification, and additional charges are expected.

Police responded to the hit-and-run just before 10 p.m. Sunday, finding the victim dead, the original news release said. The driver did not remain on scene. 

The victim, who has not been identified to the public, was a 47-year-old woman using a wheelchair to cross the road, according to police. 

Aurora police could not confirm whether Ruiz was a citizen of the United States when the crash happened.
