Body found at popular waterfall that’s been closed for months due to “catastrophic” rockfall
An unidentified male was found deceased on Tuesday in the area of the Boulder Falls waterfall destination, which is located about seven miles west of Boulder. While this destination has a history of being one of the most popular hiking destinations in the area, it has been temporarily closed since last November after a “catastrophic” rockfall left the area very unstable and dangerous.
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, two Apple Alert SOS notifications were received from the general area of the falls at about 12:51 p.m. on August 12. A 911 call was then received, with the caller reporting that a male who appeared to be deceased had been found.
Deputies, along with park rangers and medical personnel responded to the scene, finding an unresponsive male on the eastern side of the falls. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Given the rugged and technical terrain in the area, Rocky Mountain Rescue Group assisted in the recovery of the male’s body.
Information related to cause-of-death has not been released at this time.
Condolences go out to those impacted by this man’s death.
