5 things to know about the state park stabbing in Colorado
In case you missed it, a stabbing took place at Staunton State Park near Pine, Colorado on Tuesday morning.
Here are five things to know about the situation:
1. The person who was stabbed at the state park was a seasonal park ranger with Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Per an update that was reported by 9News, the ranger was stabbed in the torso and underwent surgery at a hospital. He is expected to recover.
2. The suspect is still at-large at last report, considered to be dangerous. Anyone who believes that they have seen the suspect should call 911 immediately opposed to approaching. The suspect has been described as a white male in his early 30s with no facial hair. He was estimated to be six feet tall and weigh about 200 pounds, last seen in a grey shirt with nothing on it and blue jeans.
3. At last report, the park remains evacuated with the investigation related to the attack and the search for the suspect underway. There have been some reports found online of people in the Pine area outside of the park claiming a shelter-in-place has been ordered, too, though at this time, our team has been unable to confirm that detail. At last report, Staunton State Park has been closed until further notice.
4. Multiple law enforcement teams are searching for the suspect, including regional SWAT, Colorado State Patrol, Golden Police, Arvada Police, Lakeside Police, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. AirLife is assisting, as well, with the search taking place on the ground and from the air.
5. Based on mapping provided by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, it appears as if the stabbing took place within the park in the area of S. Upper Ranch Drive and near Lazy V Trailhead.
